A Comparison of Measures for Detecting
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a new measure of perceptual saliency and quantitatively compare its ability to detect natural shapes in cluttered backgrounds to ve previously proposed measures. As deened in the new measure, the saliency of an edge is the fraction of closed random walks which contain that edge. The transition-probability matrix deening the random walk between edges is based on a distribution of natural shapes modeled by a stochastic motion. Each of the saliency measures in our comparison is a function of a set of aanity values assigned to pairs of edges. Although the authors of each measure deene the aanity between a pair of edges somewhat diierently, all incorporate the Gestalt principles of good-continuation and proximity in some form. In order to make the comparison meaningful, we use a single deenition of aanity and focus instead on the performance of the diierent functions for combining aanity values. The primary performance criterion is accuracy. We compute false-positive rates in classifying edges as signal or noise for a large set of test gures. In almost every case, the new measure signiicantly outperforms previous measures.

Comparison of Flurochrome , Ziehl-Neelsen and Tan Thiam Hok Staining Methods for Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Sputums of Patients with Pulmonary Tuberculosis
Abstract Background and objectives: Direct smear microscopy, because of its simplicity, rapidity, low cost and relatively sensitive is a suitable method to detecting pulmonary tuberculosis. This experiment was aimed at determining the best method for detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis among three kinds of staining methods: Fluorochrome, Ziehl Neelsen and Tan Thiam Hok . Material and Methods: ...
متن کاملA Geometric View of Similarity Measures in Data Mining
The main objective of data mining is to acquire information from a set of data for prospect applications using a measure. The concerning issue is that one often has to deal with large scale data. Several dimensionality reduction techniques like various feature extraction methods have been developed to resolve the issue. However, the geometric view of the applied measure, as an additional consid...
متن کاملAn Empirical Comparison of Distance Measures for Multivariate Time Series Clustering
Multivariate time series (MTS) data are ubiquitous in science and daily life, and how to measure their similarity is a core part of MTS analyzing process. Many of the research efforts in this context have focused on proposing novel similarity measures for the underlying data. However, with the countless techniques to estimate similarity between MTS, this field suffers from a lack of comparative...
متن کاملProviding a Model for Detecting Tax Fraud Based on the Personality Types of Corporate Financial Managers using the Neural Network Approach
One of the management measures to reduce tax liabilities is non-payment of taxes through tax fraud. Because personality factors may play a role in explaining tax ethics, examining personality traits and aspects of tax fraud can help to better understand the factors that influence tax decisions. The main purpose of this study is to provide a model for detecting tax fraud based on the personality...
متن کاملDiagnostic Measures in Ridge Regression Model with AR(1) Errors under the Stochastic Linear Restrictions
Outliers and influential observations have important effects on the regression analysis. The goal of this paper is to extend the mean-shift model for detecting outliers in case of ridge regression model in the presence of stochastic linear restrictions when the error terms follow by an autoregressive AR(1) process. Furthermore, extensions of measures for diagnosing influential observations are ...
